Three ways to play
Pass the Imposter has two modes plus an add-on. Classic gives the imposter no word,
Undercover gives them a similar decoy word, and the Mr. White add-on lets a caught blank
player guess the secret word to steal the win. Pick a quick one-vote game or a
full elimination game on the setup screen before any round.
🕵️
Classic
In Classic mode the imposter gets no word at all and is told they are the imposter.
This is the original “Who is the Spy?” experience. Civilians all share one secret word; the imposter sees a blank screen that says they are the imposter. The imposter knows their job from the start: listen to the clues, guess the topic, and bluff a clue that blends in. Best for new groups because the imposter always knows what is going on.
Best for: first-timers and quick rounds.

Undercover
In Undercover mode the imposter gets a similar but different word and must work out that they are the odd one.
Instead of a blank, the imposter receives a decoy word close to the real one. For example, civilians get “Coffee” while the undercover player gets “Tea.” The twist is that the undercover player does not know they are the imposter at first; their clues sound reasonable until the small differences add up. Prefer chaos over subtlety? A setup option can deal the imposter a completely different word from the same category instead, like “Coffee” against “Milkshake.” This is the most strategic and most fun mode for experienced groups.
Best for: groups who want more bluffing and mind games.

Mr. White (add-on)
Mr. White is an optional add-on to either mode: a blank player who can still win after being caught by correctly guessing the secret word.
With 5 or more players, toggle on Mr. White to add exactly one extra blank card on top of the mode you chose. Mr. White receives no word, but has a comeback mechanic: if the group votes them out, they get one final chance to win the entire game by guessing the civilians’ secret word. This keeps tension high to the very end. Even a discovered imposter can snatch victory.
Best for: dramatic endings and bigger groups (5+ players).
